The 5 local food I loved in Malaysia🇲🇾 KL Sentral
I had a chance to stay in the area for 2 nights so I wanted to share what I ate in KL Sentral!
My favorite thing about KL is that it has so much variety of cuisine with a great budget!
KL Sentral is the hub station in KL and connects the prime destinations of KL such as KLCC, Bukit Bintang, Petaling Street, and KLIA. (Kuala Lumpur International Airport)
The restaurants I went to in KL Sentral and the Google Maps
1. Brickfields Char Kuey Teow
Char Kuey Teow is a sticky flat noodle that is very typical and popular in Southeast Asia.)Char is fry and Kuey Teow is the type of noodle that is flat and sticky.
I really can't get enough of this and have no clue why Japanese love these types of noodles, but it isn't eaten in Japan.
Each char kuey teow shop will have its own chili, and this adds depth to the fragrance and taste of the dish.
Char Kuey Teow:8RM(1.5USD)
2. Peter’s Pork Noodle
When I eat ramen back home, the last broth I will choose is tonkotsu, which means pork bones. I don't really like the smell that is given off when it is cooked... And I prefer miso, chicken, then gyokai=seafood.
But this one didn't have the pork smell from the shop. It is really flavorful with a rich pork flavor but also somehow gentle to the stomach.
Adding the egg was a must, it was really nice to have it mixed together with the broth.
I mixed the noodles Quay Teow(looks white, flat, and chewy) and Yee Mee (straight yellow noodles similar to Japanese ramen), I can't get enough of the combination!
- Pork Noodles with egg: 9RM(USD)
- Cincao Juice: 2.6RM(USD)
3. Sentral Chappati House
The curry also smells rich and milder, too.
I wrote a few days back I love and prefer the charcoal BBQ of the tandoori chicken from Pakistani restaurants over the Indian restaurants using a tandoor, but the Indian ones are very tasty, too...
I'm addicted to the salty sour sauce that probably uses yogurt, citrus, salt, and herbs!!
The meat was very tender on the inside and the outside had a very crispy and smoky taste on the outside!
- Tandori Chicken: 10RM(3USD)
- Butter Paratha: 3.5RM(1USD)
I was walking late at night for supper and found this place.
Malay fried rice Nasi Goreng. The fried rice I had was Nasi Goreng Kampong, my favorite as there is so much depth and flavor to the dish.
The milk tea was shocking sweet I couldn't finish but I will probably be back for the nasi goreng kampong if I have supper time in KL Sentral!
- Nasi Goreng Kampung:7RM(2USD)
- Teh: 2RM(0.5USD)
5. Yarl Srilankan food
I wanted to try this restaurant, as I don't think I ever had Srilankan cuisine before. But it had quite a crowd on a wait, so I gave up to try in the near future!
The reviews said the place has been around and loved for a long time, renovated to the fancy side but still seemed to have a great reputation!
Where I stayed in KL Sentral: Citi Hotel KL Sentral
The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from KL Sentral Station.
But the service, the rooms... it was depressing to stay here, honestly considering the budget for the prime location.
I wouldn't go back. It felt like I was in jail...
so after walking around a bit I thought this hotel below was a lot worth staying at!
Nu Hotel KL Sentral
It is just across CITI HOTEL, and the reviews are much better. I thought of switching to this hotel but they were full house, so I will book this one the next time I'm in KL Sentral!!
KL Sentral: A convenient transport hub for KL
How it was staying in KL Sentral
I thought KL Sentral was very convenient. I like to stay near the airport the night before if I have a morning flight, but the access wasn't really good from the city center and the airport...
Due to covid, the airport shuttle service was on suspension, and I would've needed to book a ride of 30RM~50RM(7~11USD)for a single ride between KLIA and the hotels near the airport.
It's 14RM(3.5USD)and takes about an hour bus ride from KL Sentral~KLIA, and also has a rapid train (35 minutes journey) too for 55RM(12.5USD)
If you were to take rapid, then Grab cost 60RM(13.6USD) from Maluri to KLIA which is not so different in cost. (It was roughly 50 minute journey) So, Grab might be better but note there might be traffic during the daytime.
If budget permits, the Sama Sama Hotel seems like the easiest way out, linked to the airport! I'll give it a try next time I have the chance.
KL Sentral gourmet!
I thought the food will be much more pricey in KL Sentral but I passed by so many options that are very reasonably priced!
Both the highway bus and train from the airport have direct transport to KL Sentral! The mall connected to the station has many options for things to do. so I recommend it as a hub, especially for your first night or your last night at KL!

In this blog, I post my food trips worldwide, as insights into Japanese food in comparison to all the different cuisines I encounter through my journey.
I also try to share information from Japan that fills our hearts or might help us think about how to better the world!
Here are the SNS channels I have, but I mainly focus on Twitter at the moment. I share my past car trip around mainly Hokkaido, and how it was living there!
